Wayne County Board of Equalization Members Needed

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 48-5-311, Wayne County is seeking qualified citizens to serve on the Wayne County Board of Equalization.

The Board of Equalization is a panel of citizens responsible for hearing and deciding appeals filed by taxpayers regarding property tax assessments. These appeals may involve questions related to property value, taxability, uniformity of assessment, or denial of exemptions.

Members of the Board of Equalization serve an important role in ensuring fairness and impartiality in the property tax appeal process. Board members must be residents of Wayne County and must be willing to attend required state-approved training prior to serving.

Duties of the Board include:

  • Hearing property tax assessment appeals from taxpayers

  • Reviewing evidence presented by both the taxpayer and the County Board of Tax Assessors

  • Rendering impartial decisions based on applicable laws and facts presented at the hearing

Individuals interested in serving on the Wayne County Board of Equalization may submit their name and contact information for consideration by the Wayne County Grand Jury, which is responsible for appointing members to the Board.
